I hadn’t intended to spend much time on the River Trent early season, but Bob Roberts, Alfie Naylor and myself had had such a great June 16th that as I drove away any thoughts of getting onto my carp syndicate lake were being overtaken by when could I get back on the Trent? Alfie’s hard work and local knowledge had produced the goods, it seemed daft to not make the most of the opportunity we had, a second visit to the pre-baited area was called for, writes Daiwa Consultant Brian Skoyles.

Bob Roberts and I were stood on the Daiwa stand at the Northern Angling Show. During a lull in talking about rods and reels we got into conversation with an angler, Alfie Naylor, about his catches on the River Trent. In my opinion Hull and District Angling Association are brilliant at organising events to encourage newcomers to angling but this event was a bit special even by their standards. A combined H&DAA, PAC and Angling Trust Event with opportunities to try Pike angling, Carp fishing and general coarse angling spread over two ponds. Jointly organised by Andy Loble on behalf of the Angling Trust, Clive Melhuish PAC Regional Organiser, Derek Pye H&DAA Fisheries Officer and supported by Carp-Talk, it promised to be a great day, I was really looking forward to being involved ... writes Daiwa Consultant Brian Skoyles.

I’m stood with Dave Mutton in the torrential rain, staring out over a wind lashed lake. I’d recently had a conversation with a somewhat depressed organiser Clive Melhuish and the junior pike academy was going ahead despite the appalling conditions writes Daiwa Consultant Brian Skoyles.
