“Forces CARP” is a programme designed to introduce injured service men and women to the sport of carp fishing, by giving them a series of basic coaching sessions. Last year, Brian Skoyles attended his first “Forces CARP” event and, as he was attending it again this year, he decided to write up the following article.

21st/22nd May 2016, at Grebe Pond, near Brough East Yorkshire, the first of four Carp School weekends organised by Hull and District Angling Association took place. Daiwa Consultant Brian Skoyles was one of the angling coaches helping a group of keen youngsters catch their first carp.

For Christmas my usual angling partner, Graham Drewery, got a light lure combo consisting of a Specialist Light Lure “Small Plugger” rod and a Ninja 1500A reel, as a present. With the lighter evenings and the warmer weather it seemed like a good idea to put the new gear through its paces.

“Will you be bringing your camera, there are lots of new products to see?” As I ended the call with Stephen McCaveny, Daiwa’s Marketing Manager my first thought was how could it possibly be Tradeshow time again, but it is early October, it would soon be time for the thermals and flasks of soup, but before that it was time to head for Doncaster.
