Hectic Action at Chew Valley

The latest news from Neville Fickling on a productive spell pike fishing including a trip to Chew Valley.
A cracking Chew double.

“The pike fishing has been hectic as one would expect now being in the middle of November. Unfortunately really big fish have been a bit thin on the ground, although lots of double figure fish caught with one really good day on Chew in October.
“The pike fishing at Chew continues to hold up well in spite of angling pressure. My plan was to bank fish on opening day in order to suss out what was going on. Then when I had a boat booked on the 2nd day it was going to be a fish a chuck… I hoped! The plan worked pretty well and I was able to see where the most pike activity was. My bank fishing wasn’t that productive with 6 small pike, but never mind.

“As we waited to start boat fishing on the second day a pike angler caught a 33lber from the bank on a deadbait about 200 yards from where I had been fishing! I cried quietly. However the big plus for me is that all the boats opted to fish near where the 33 had been caught from leaving where I had wanted to fish empty.

"The result was a cracking day with 14 fish over 16lb caught by my boat partner Steve Rowley and myself. He had a 21, two 19’s, three 18’s, a 17 and a 16 while I had two 19’s and two 18’s. All fell to soft lures. I’m looking forward to going back with the new Megaforce lures.”
