Coming to the end of a three day session on the Ashmead Syndicate in Somerset, he landed the big common, known as ‘Psst’ stalking a few feet out from the bank.
“The lake owner Mark had come down for a chat that morning, and while walking round we both watched a couple of good fish cruising through a small channel in the weed” explained Martyn.
"Mark mentioned the fish had only cleared the area in the last couple of days, and so I quickly packed the rest of my gear away and came back to the spot with a rod.
I quietly lowered a single boilie into position and flicked a handful of crushed freebies around it. There was still a group of fish in the area, including a couple of very large commons so I sat well back from the edge and waited.
I thought my chance had gone when a couple of hours later I hadn’t received a take, however just a few minutes before I needed to leave the rod screamed off. I certainly couldn't have asked for a better way to end the trip.”
