The new venue was Fourways fishery. A complex of 3 lakes at Gunthorpe. I arrived to find the match in progress, and as expected the fishing hard going. This normally prolific venue was suffering from the deluge of cold water overnight and the blustery conditions were making the fishing difficult. As usual I was impressed with how keen the juniors were, and the level of support from both parent and helpers, mind you this is a feature of Scunthorpe Police Angling Club events.
As the match progressed more heavy rain came and went, the “wonders of a British summer”, then it was time for the hooter and the weigh in. Despite the weights being low there was the usual tension and huddle round the scales as the fish were weighed in. I was particularly impressed with a lovely crucian caught by one of the youngest competitors.
Everyone retired to the nearby Haxey Gate Inn on the banks of the River Idle for some refreshments and the presentations … big smiles all round, especially from the winners. As usual it was a pleasure to attend a SPAC event on behalf of Daiwa. Thank you Martin for the invite, and on behalf of the juniors thank you and your team of helpers for organising the event …. Can you get the weather organised for next year though!
