The Angling Trust Match at Barford Lakes

As the publicity drive for the newly formed Angling Trust continues to gather pace it was the turn of the match fishing community to contribute to the effort.
Team Daiwa led by Kieron Rich

Barford Lakes in Norwich played host to new and unique team event where ordinary match and club anglers could apply for a place in a sponsored team led by one of the sports sponsored anglers.

The Team Daiwa quintet was led by our very own Kieron Rich and he and his team pitted their wits against 13 other teams.

The event was ran by Sarah at Barford Lakes www.barfordtackle.com  and after the match she offered,

“The Angling Trust match went very well on Saturday; all 84 anglers turned up in very good spirits and the atmosphere was tremendous.  Mark Lloyd (Angling Trust) caught his first carp on camera - and lost his first carp on camera!  Martin Salter MP had lots of fun catching 15lb from Railway but got battered both sides and left me some feeders on the island!

"Thank you so much for your generous support, your team looked great and the reels really made the day as section prizes as the team captains cleared up most of the money!"

"We all need to keep pushing the message of the Trust as much as and wherever we can. The match attracted a lot of interest and was talked about a great deal before and after the event.  We also gained 80 new members for the Trust – so I feel mission accomplished so far.”

The match was won by team Fox with 29 points and a weight of 298lbs 3ozs and the Daiwa team brought home 55 points with a weight of 222lbs 11ozs for joint 12th.

Individually it was Kieron's friend Andy May who put a mammoth 154lb 8ozs on the scales thanks to a classy performance on the pellet waggler. Whilst Kieron himself put in a worthy display with another ton plus weight of 115lb 13ozs for second place on the Match Lake.

It is quite likely that this match will become an annual fixture and we at Daiwa are happy to pledge our support next time around.
