The end of November marks the time for the annual Daiwa Open in Withernsea, Hull. Attracting beach anglers from all over the north east of England, the competition features several categories including: Junior, Lady, Flatfish, Whiting and Men. Daiwa Consultant, Brian Skoyles, was at the Junior event and below he describes the Juniors competition.

I like my surface fishing for carp, I’m rubbish with a fly rod, so fly fishing for carp has not really been on my radar, but that might be about to change. A couple of years ago I met a fly angler called John Blewitt on an Angling Trust course and we have kept in touch. John fancied catching a carp on the fly and I had experience of some good surface fishing venues, it seemed logical to combine John’s skills and my knowledge to target carp on the fly.

Finding a word to describe Ashmead Fishery is not easy, but for now I’ll settle for unique. I’ve just returned from a fabulous session at Ashmead and in conversation with another angler it was described to me as a maze with no swims and a thousand places to fish … it describes Ashmead beautifully, writes Daiwa consultant Brian Skoyles.

A number of Daiwa UK employees, as well as associates from Japan, recently went on a Carp fishing trip with consultant Brian Skoyles. Making their way down to Hull were Daiwa UK Rod Technicians David Maling, Scott Richardson and Taku Oda, alongside Ted Akutsu and Harry Sezai.
